SHC moved against appointment of new city police chief

KARACHI: A petition challenging appointment of new city police chief, AIG Shahid Hayat, was filed on Monday in Sindh High Court SHC.

Senior police officers, Allah Dino Khuwaja, DIG Training Sindh Police, Bashir Memon Addl Inspector General Of Police R&D Sindh, Sanaullah Abbasi DIG Special Branch Sindh Police, Azhar Rashid, DIG T&T Sindh Police, Dr Ameer Ahmed Sheikh DIG CID Sindh Police have approached the court against appointment of Shahid Hayat as city police chief.

They submitted in the petition that junior officer Shahid Hayat, who is in grade 20, has been appointed as AIG Police, Karachi Range in the grade21 through a notification dated 12th September, 2013 on own pay scale OPS basis, despite a number of senior, competent and experienced police officers in grade 21 were available.

Besides, they pointed out that as per seniority list, there were also other most senior officers in grade20 than Shahid Hayat who was among others a most junior in grade20, yet he has been posted as AIG Police Karachi Range in sheer violation of Rules.

The petitioners maintained that being senior police officers in grade21 and 21, they have been neglected but a junior officer was posted as city police chief which was not only violation of statutory procedures, but it would further disrupt the entire structure of civil service.

The court has been prayed to direct Hayat to show authority of law under which he is holding charge of Additional Inspector, General of Police, Karachi Range BPS21. The court was also prayed to suspend the notification regarding his appointment as city police AIG police.
