SHC orders appointment of new IO in missing person case

KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday directed deputy Inspector General (DIG) CIA to appoint an honest police officer to conduct an investigation into a missing person case allegedly gunned down and buried at Edhi cemetery.

A division bench headed by Justice Sajjad Ali Shah gave this direction while hearing a petition filed by a woman Aga Lana seeking whereabouts of her missing son Haider Ali, allegedly picked up by police from Yousufzai bus stand within jurisdiction of Pirabad police station.

During hearing, the petitioner informed the court that after the directions of the court, FIR was registered and Investigation was entrusted to a special investigation officer (SIO) at Peerabad police station. Though, during investigation SIO was transferred to Paposh Nagar police station by DIG West, she had no confidence in the present investigation officer.

Counsel for the petitioner said that it was learnt that missing person had been killed and buried at one of graveyard of Edhi but petitioner and family members of missing were not willing to accept this reality and they wanted redressal of their grievance by transparent investigation into case by an honest police officer.

The bench directed DIG CIA Sultan Khawaja to appoint honest officer to investigate into the case under his supervision and submit final report in accordance with law. Hearing of case was adjourned till March 5.
