Karachi: The Sindh High Court SHC has directed the concerned government departments to immediately make payment of compensation amount to all affected people of the Lyari Expressway project without any further delay.
Headed by Justice Maqbool Baqar, the division bench was seized with plea seeking contempt of court proceedings against officials of Lyari Expressway Rehabilitation Project and other official respondents who according to applicant were demanding huge bribe for making payment of compensation amount and alternative plots to hundreds of affectees of Lyari Expressway Project.
The applicant had submitted that SHC on August 8, 2012 had disposed of their petition with direction to concerned authorities to pay compensation amount as well as alternate land as promised within three weeks.
He had alleged that officers concerned were demanding huge amount as bribe to issue compensation amount and allot alternate plots to affectees. Therefore he had prayed to court to initiate contempt of court proceedings against officials concerned.
During the hearing, Miran Muhammad Shah, additional advocate general submitted that arrangements are being made for making payments to the lawfully entitled affectees of Lyari Expressway resettlement project after due verification. However, he added that in this regard Accountant General Sindh has issued authority letter to the manager of National Bank of Pakistan. It was further submitted that process shall commence immediately.
The court ruled that, “We would dispose of the present application by directing the official respondents to commence making payments immediately to all affected without any further delay quickly and swiftly not to give an occasion for any complaints”.
The court also observed that as some petitioners before court were submitting that money was being demanded from them for making payments to them. The court therefore ordered, “once again we warn that if any such complaint is made before us we shall pass stern order against all those respondents”.
