Karachi: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday directed Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and other respondents to file comments in response to application filed by Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) seeking deferment in the printing of voters’ lists of three National Assembly and eight Sindh Assembly constituencies, which were delimited.
Headed by the Justice Maqbool Baqar, the division bench was hearing urgent application filed by MQM’s Farough Naseem, who submitted that SHC has reserved its judgment in separate petitions against the ECP’s notification for delimitation of constituencies in Karachi. He said that since the verdict in the petitions was not announced, voters’ lists of 11 constituencies could be sent for printing.
Therefore, he pleaded the court to differ printing of voters’ lists of these constituencies till the judgment on delimitation of constituencies is not announced.
The court issued notices to deputy attorney general and advocate general of Sindh, as well as, respondents, and adjourned the matter to Friday.
