SHC transfers Wali Khan Babar murder case to ATC Kashmore-Kandhkot

KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday transferred the murder case of TV reporter Wali Khan Babar from Karachi to Anti-terrorism Court (ATC) Kashmore-Kandhkot district.

At the request of provincial government to transfer of the trial from Karachi in view of threats to the lives of investigators, witnesses and prosecution lawyers, SHC Chief Justice Maqbool Baqar ordered the transfer of case to ATC Kashmore-Kandhkot district.

Provincial government in application moved to SHC, stated that four policemen and advocate Naimat Ali Randhawa representing complainant linked to investigation into Geo TV reporter Wali Khan Babar’s murder case had been targeted. It submitted that there were threats to the lives of investigators, witnesses and prosecution lawyers. Hence, it has requested the SHC chief justice to transfer the case to Shikarpur district.

Babar was shot dead in Liaquatabad on Jan 13, 2011, when as he was going home from office. The case was assigned to the Special Investigation Unit.
