Karachi: Sindh cabinet here Monday discussed the draft of new Local Government law and decided to launch broad consultations on it all political parties to ensure that the proposed law gives even better representation to elected councillors.
The cabinet meeting was held at the chief minister house with Sindh chief minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah in chair. The draft of the proposed Local Government Bill 2013 was presented in the meeting with was discussed threadbare.
Sindh information minister Sharjeel Inam Memon told media that the CM’s committee on local government bill comprising Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, Syed Owais Muzaffar, Dr Sikander Mandhro, Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani, Sharjeel Memon and Murad Ali Shah also attended the meeting.
It was decided that the draft of the proposed bill would be uploaded on the website of Sindh government and this draft would also be given to all political parties to get their suggestions. In this regard the committee would also meet the leaders of these political parties. The new local government elections would be held on party basis, aimed at to ensure maximum representation of people through their elected councillors.
The meeting also discussed the traffic and public transport system of Karachi and approved provision of land for Karachi Circular Railway KCR besides different tax exemptions and relief of duties in import of machinery and equipment needed for the project. It was decided to take better efforts to solve the chronic traffic issue of Karachi.
The meeting agreed to further beef up security of the red zone including Sindh Assembly and Sindh Secretariat and formed a committee comprising Sharjeel Memon, Manzoor Wassan and chief secretary Muhammad Aijaz Chaudhry to solve the traffic flow and parking issues in this zone.
On the occasion, the draft of Witness Protection Bill was also approved. The meeting participants condemned the recent attack on Sindh minister for Katchi Abadies Javed Nagori. They also took notice of the selling of raw wine, Gutka and other banned narcotics in the province and decided to initiate a big operation against them with the help of Sindh rangers. The operation would be launched from Hyderabad and extended to whole province.
