Karachi: A meeting regarding conduct of Local Government elections was held under with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah in chair at Chief Minister’s House Sunday evening.
Sindh Minister for Local Government Syed Owais Muzaffar, Sindh Minister for Information Sharjeel Enam Memon, Sindh Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Sikandar Mendhro, Chief Secretary Sindh Muhammad Aijaz Chaudhary, Secretary Local Government Ali Ahmed Lund, Advocate General Khalid Javaid Khan, Secretary Law and other officers attended the meeting.
Addressing the meeting, Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that Sindh Govt was ready to hold Local bodies’ elections at earliest possible. He said that all arrangements to conduct local Govt election are being completed as per directives of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
He said that as per 140-A of the Constitution of Pakistan 1973, Provincial Government’s were made responsible for making law & delimitation for Local Govts, adding that Sindh was the first province who passed the Sindh Local Govt Act-2013 and fulfilled all requisitions for holding of Local Govt elections as per directives of the apex court.
He said that now it was the responsibility of Election Commission of Pakistan to conduct Local bodies’ election at earliest and the Sindh Govt was ready for the task and shall provide full assistance to the Election Commission of Pakistan in this regards.
The meeting expressed its satisfaction over the arrangements regarding Local bodies’ elections in Sindh.
Chief Minister directed the officers of Local Govt and Revenue Department to complete the process of delimitation before the commitment made in the court. He also directed the concerned administrators performing the duty of the local government to provide full assistance to the public.
