Special drive ordered to nab absconders, proclaimed offenders

KARACHI: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Fayyaz Ahmed Laghari on Wednesday directed police to launch an special campaign at provincial level to apprehend absconders and proclaimed offenders.

The IGP issued these directives while presiding over a high-level meeting at Central Police Office pertaining to law and order situation in Sindh, particularly in Karachi. The meeting was also attended by Additional IGs Special Branch, CID Karachi, DIGs Headquarters Sindh, Establishment, AIGs Operations, Legal and Admirations, SSPs and other officials.

The IGP also urged police to a make report on the crimes committed by the arrested criminals and send it every week.

He said that targeted operations should be accelerated and advance intelligence collection units stabilised. “Such steps should be taken which could boost confidence of people in police, while community policing should be enforced at police station level,” the IGP said.

The response time of Helpline 15 Call Centre should be improved, he added, Additional IG Karachi Iqbal Mehmood told the meeting that Karachi police had already launched action against absconders and proclaimed offenders, while police have also been directed to ensure the arrest of the accused.
