Karachi: Pakistan’s nine hockey players Saturday left for India to participate in Indian Hockey League, which begins from 14th January in New Delhi.
The players, who will be featuring the league are Muhammad Irfan, Imran Butt, Rizwan Junior, Rashid Mahmud, Farid Ahmed, Muhammad Tausiq, Shafqat Rasool, Rashid Shah and Rizwan Senior.
The players were initially denied Indian visas. But later on they received their visas, as Indian embassy in Pakistan said that it received the passports late from the courier service. The embassy added that that the visas were processed as soon as they received the passports.
The players had to cancel their flights after they didn’t received visas as they were expecting the visas on Wednesday.
Five citybased franchised teams — Delhi Wave riders, Jaypee Punjab Warriors, Uttar Pradesh Wizards, Mumbai Magicians and Ranchi Rhinos featuring local as well as foreign players — will be seen in action during the league.
