Karachi: Seven players out of the sixteen, who reached second round in men’s singles event, didn’t have to play a match to qualify for the second round of Subh-e-Nau Clay Court Tennis Championship after they got walkovers at Islamabad Club on Monday.
M. Abid, M. Rehan, Rizwan, Ahmed Mahmood, Imad Amir, Ikramullah, and Yousuf eased into the second round after they got walkovers against their respective opponents in the first round.
Yet there were some thrilling matches that took place in the event, which captured the attention of the spectators.
Fahad Masood recovered from a set down to beat Tahirullah recording a 46, 63, 63 victory.
Usman Rafique also lost the first set only to bounce back in the second to eventually beat Adnan Khan by 46, 61, 62 score.
Usman Ijaz defeated Faizan Khurram by 75, 63 score to secure his place in the second round.
Meanwhile, Amir Khan overpowered Shiraz Ahmed registering a convincing 61, 60 victory to secure his place in the second round of boys U18 singles event.
In boys U14 first round, Abdullah Hasan defeated Syed M. Haisam in straight sets registering a 62, 63 victory. Maaz Naeem dispatched Muneeb Sajid by 62, 61 score.
