SSUET holds seminar on Liaquat Day

Karachi: Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology organized a seminar to mark Liaquat Day at the campus. Noted speakers paid rich tribute to the services of Nawab Liaquat Ali Khan during Pakistan Movement and as first Prime Minister of Pakistan.

Addressing the seminar Engr Adil Usman said that we are living in an independent state with complete respect and dignity as a result of hard struggle by the leaders like Nawab Liaquat Ali Khan for creating a new state in the subcontinent.

He told that Liaquat Ali Khan was a graduate of Aligarh Muslim University and he rose into prominence within the Muslim League during the 1930s. He has the credit to significantly persuade Jinnah to return to India, an event which marked the beginning of the Muslim League’s ascendancy and paved the way for the Pakistan movement. Nawab Liaquat assisted Jinnah in campaigning for the creation of a separate state for Indian Muslims.

Speaking on the occasion, Adil Usman said Quaid-e-Millat Liaquat Ali Khan fully supported and assisted Mr Jinnah in his long and arduous journey which was finally rewarded on 14th August 1947. His unflinching support, his commitment and dedication brought him extremely close to Quaid-e-Azam.

Chancellor Adil Usman pointed out that in the course of his parliamentary career Liaquat Ali Khan was known to stick to his opinion even in the face of severe odds. He took active part in legislative affairs; he was a part of the Muslim delegation in the national convention held in Calcutta to evaluate the Nehru Report in 1928.

Renowned researcher Khawaja Razi Haider said in response to the division of India on the basis of bi-nation theory, around 144 proposals, plans, concepts and suggestions came forward. Mehfooz un Nabi Khan said Liaquat Ali Khan’s foreign policy was very effective and it was based on national interest. He did economic wonders and controlled the pricehike in Pakistan during the era of world severe recession. His annual budget was always surplus and balance of trade was always in favour of Pakistan.

Khan told that when Liaquat Ali Khan took the charge of Prime Minister he had no official residence, and stayed in the Haroon’s house as Prime Minister.

Prof. Dr. Waqar Ahmed Rizvi said Liaquat Ali Khan is a role model for our youth and he was a true successor of Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He is credited for establishing a very strong defence line.

Dr Muhammad Raza Kazmi said when Liaquat Ali Khan was murdered, his mother was alive and she was proud of her son’s pure character. PTV producer said today’s nation has no respect for their national heroes.

Renowned poet Anwar Azmi presented poetic tribute to Liaquat Ali Khan, while Registrar Syed Abrar Ali presented the vote of thanks.
