Karachi: Three police officers embraced martyrdom in exchange of firing with bandits in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, three armed bandits were also killed on Thursday.
Police on tipoff about the presence of criminals cordoned off the slum area near Safari Park in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, within the remit of Gulistan-e-Jauhar police station.
The armed bandits sensing the danger opened firing on police. In exchange of firing, two police Assistant Sub-Inspectors Muhammad Asif and Aslam died on spot. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Qasim Ghauri was wounded in firing and died during treatment in hospital.
Police said two SHOs and several police personnel were also injured in firing.
Rescue sources said three alleged bandits Peryal Chandio, Umeed Ali and Shakir Ellahi were killed in police firing. Three other bandits managed to escape from the scene in cover of firing.
The bodies and injured were rushed to hospital.
Police source said bandits were associated with Peryal Chandio Gang, involved in many robberies in interior Sindh, adding the gang members had taken shelter in Karachi.
