Karachi: Pakistan Throwball Federation PTF Thursday announced the postponement of the three-match throwball series with Sri Lanka, which was scheduled to be played in Karachi from March 26.
“We have postponed the series against Sri Lanka because we are unable to hold National Men’s Championship and Beach National Championship, which would have served as the trials to select the team for the international event,” Maqbool Ahmed, secretary PTF told PPI.
“It was not possible to hold the national events at this time, where players from across the country were expected, under the prevailing law and order situation in Karachi,” he added.
PTF had earlier scheduled to organize the national events from March 810 in Karachi.
“But we will organize the series against Sri Lanka next month as soon as the situation in the city normalizes. Or otherwise we have the options of organizing the series in Islamabad or Lahore,” Maqbool said.
He further said that although his counterparts in Sri Lanka were a bit concerned about the situation in Karachi but they have not yet cancelled the tour.
“I have talked Sri Lankan officials and have told them we would only ask them to come when we feel the situation in the country is stable for us to organize the event successfully. And they have put faith in us and are ready to tour Pakistan next month as soon as we communicate the new dates to them,” Maqbool said.
Recently, the security situation in Karachi has forced Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association PBSA to call off the KMC Indo-Pak Snooker Series after the Indian players were restricted by Indian Travel Advisory Board due to security concerns.
The event was to be played from March 710 after a gap of eight years.
Meanwhile, Maqbool rubbished media reports that Sri Lankan team has called off the tour due to security concerns.
“Sri Lankan team has not called off the tour but we have decided to postpone the event because we first have to select our team for the event, which we were unable to do. Sri Lankan team will come when we ask them to come for the tournament,” Maqbool said confidently.
