Trade ICCI FOR EMPOWERING WOMEN TO REDUCE POVERTY AND UNEMPLOYMENT

Islamabad: Women are more than half of our population and bringing them in the mainstream of economic life is the key to reduce poverty & unemployment as well as to strengthen the economy.

This was observed by Mr. Zafar Bakhtawari, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry ICCI while exchanging views with Ms. Qaisra Sheikh, President, Central & North Punjab Women Chamber of Commerce & Industry CNPWCCI during her visit to ICCI.

He said the benefits of women empowerment are many and the new government should focus on offering special incentives for the development of women entrepreneurship so that this important segment of society could play a constructive and more effective role for the development of country.

He said that establishment of CNPWCCI was a positive step towards the empowerment of women and hoped that it would facilitate and help the aspiring women entrepreneurs to enter the business world.

Mr. Bakhtawari was of the view that developed world has achieved better economic progress by empowering its women and Pakistan can also accelerate the pace of its economic growth by enhancing the participation of women in business & economy.

He assured that ICCI would provide all sorts of professional and technical support to CNPWCCI in its capacity building and for facilitating its members.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms Qaisra Sheikh, President, Central & North Punjab Women Chamber of Commerce & Industry CNPWCCI highlighted the different issues being faced by women entrepreneurs in Pakistan.

She said lack of access to finance was a major problem for women entrepreneurs and urged that government should develop a system to provide easy credit to them.

She said training, networks development, obtaining required business information, barriers in the legal and policy frameworks were other major obstacles for women entrepreneurs, which need to be addressed by the government.

She informed that CNPWCCI plans to provide one window facility to facilitate its members and is determined to elevate the status of women by engaging their maximum number in business activities.

She said CNPWCCI has made significant contribution for the empowerment of women by facilitating them in promoting networking, getting necessary trainings, organizing exhibitions and sending businesswomen delegations within the country and abroad.

Ms. Qaisra Sheikh desired that being the Capital Chamber of the country, ICCI should help CNPWCCI in developing better nexus with policy makers, diplomatic community and other key stakeholders which would help in raising the voice of businesswomen and addressing their problems.
