Traffic police asked to take action against overcrowded minibuses

Karachi: Additional Inspector General Traffic Ghulam Qadir Thebo has asked the police take action against overcrowded minibuses which allow passengers to sit on their rooftops.

Addressing a meeting of traffic police officers at Saleem Wahidi Auditorium he said the traffic enforcement and regulation are included in the responsibilities of traffic police. He said strict steps should be taken at Traffic Section level to stop violation of traffic rules in Karachi. He said if the traffic section officers failed to take steps against overcrowded minibuses with commuters sitting on roof racks they would be sacked.

He asked the vigilance team to audit the paid challans. He said corrupt elements in the traffic police would be purged. He said a campaign is being started against vehicles with fancy number plates, substandard silencers and tinted glasses. He said the civil society is also taking part in this drive. He said transfers and posting in the traffic police would be carried out only on merit basis.
