Transparency in voter registration process demanded

Karachi: The process of voter verification in Karachi should be made transparent and free from the interference of political elements so that the orders of the apex court could be implemented in letter and spirit, said JamaateIslami JI leader ex-MPA Muhammad Yunus Barai.

He said in areas dominated by certain political and ethnic parties, overt and covert efforts are made to affect the voter verification process. He said once again decisions about the voter’s lists are made in the offices of political parties and drawing rooms of influential persons in certain areas. He said this malpractice if not stopped would nullify the exercise of the Election Commission of Pakistan to include the names of genuine voters in its updated lists.

He demanded that the process of voter verification should be free from any political interference and let the verification teams inspect the areas physically going door to door instead of updating lists inside the offices and drawing rooms of political elements.

Barari said if the political interference in the voter verification process was not ended his party would file a petition in the apex court to ensure free and fair updating of voter lists.
