Tribal from SW demands polling stations for IDPs

Peshawar: Elders of South Waziristan Agency (SWA) and North Waziristan Agency (NWA) on Monday demanded of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to arrange polling station for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of SWA so they would cast their vote coming general election.

They said almost 70 percent IDPs of NA-42 constituency of SWA had been living in NWA and the reaming were living in Tank, D.I Khan, Karachi and other parts of the country.

Speaking at news conference at Peshawar Press Club, Qazi Saleem Khan, resident of SWA and Bismillah Jan of NWA said that majority of IDPs were residing in different parts of NWA including tehsil Shawal, Dattakhel, Miran Shah, Mirali, Dossali and Razmak and polling facilities for them in SWA were inevitable.

They added that as per new list 88 percent of vote casting in a particular constituency would be essential for valid electoral process however it would be impossible for the IDPs to travel 300 KM from North Waziristan to reach D.I Khan and Tank for polling their votes.

If overseas Pakistani can use their right of vote then step-mother behaviour should not be adopted with tribal peoples they said.
