Two killed, four injured in festival firing, stampede

TANDO JAM, SINDH: Two people were killed in firing while four others sustained injuries in a stampede at Syed Murad Ali Shah’s festival in Tando Qaiser near here on Thursday.

The Urs celebration of renowned Sufi saint Syed Murad Ali Shah was in full swing in Tando Qaiser near Tando Jam when two groups of people exchanged hot words. Later, one group opened indiscriminate fire on other at a shop in the festival, killing a 16yearold student Ali Mohammad alias Babu and Shahnawaz Khaskheli.

The firing also caused a stampede in the festival in which four people were injured. Local police rushed to the scene and took the situation in control. The festival celebration was badly marred by the firing as panic ruled the area. Area people were compelled to stay homes while coming from far flung areas had to return.

The bodies were brought to Civil Hospital Tando Jam and later shifted to their natives villages after medicolegal formalities.

The local police have registered the case and started further investigation into it.

Victims Ali Mohammad and Shahnawaz were the residents of village Hussain Khan Thoro and Tando Jam. The victims were later laid to rest at their native graveyards amid mourning atmosphere.
