KARACHI:,,, An Anti-Terrorism Court-V (ATC-V) on Friday awarded 14-year imprisonment to two suspects Amir and Sohail in two crimes cases. ATC-V Judge pronounced the verdict after recording evidence of witnesses and hearing arguments from both sides. Both Suspects were booked in extortion and arms possession cases registered under Sections 385 and 13-D of the Arms Ordinance. The court awarded seven-year imprisonment to both under section 385 in extortion case. It also awarded another seven-year imprisonment under section 13-D in arms possession case.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 against both convicts. In case of default, the convicts will have to undergo an additional two-year imprisonment. According to the prosecution, suspects had demanded Rs 200,000 from Abdul Qayoom, an employee of Mujeebullah Degree College, in February 2012. Later, the complainant reported the matter to police and the suspects were arrested during a raid within the remits of New Karachi police station.
A case was registered under Sections 385 (putting a person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion), 386 (extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act at the New Karachi station.
