UN chief affirms support for Yemen’s unity and legitimate leadership

United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday underlined his support for the security, unity and safety of Yemen and its legitimate leadership headed by President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi.

This came in a verbal message conveyed to President Hadi by UN Special Envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths, during their meeting in Saudi Arabia's capital Riyadh, according to Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

In the message, Guterres also appreciated Hadi's sincere and serious stances towards peace, as well as achieving security, stability and harmony in Yemen, saying he is looking forward to meeting him at the United Nations soon.

For his part, Hadi praised the positions of the UN chief and the international community towards Yemen's security, unity and stability and supporting its constitutional legitimacy. He stressed that efforts are underway to overcome the repercussions of recent events in Aden, Abyan and Shabwa provinces and to bring about effective solutions to these problems in accordance with national constants and in cooperation with the Saudi-led Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen.

The meeting discussed a number of issues related to the peace prospects in Yemen and the efforts of the UN envoy to push forward the peace process after it stalled due to the Houthi militias' failure to adhere to the determinants of peace and its clear steps.
