UNA media delegation to begin Azerbaijan trip today

A media delegation will arrive Monday in Azerbaijan, as part of the Media Delegation Program of the Union of OIC News Agencies (UNA), which was launched on June 26 with a visit to Tunisia.

The visit program is being carried out by the Union in cooperation with the Information Department of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and at the invitation of Azerbaijan represented by its embassy in Saudi Arabia and its Permanent Mission to the OIC.

During the trip, scheduled to last until October 28, the delegation will meet with a number of officials and visit several cultural, economic and tourist sites as well as Azerbaijan Television (AzTV), the State News Agency (AZERTAC) and the Association of Journalists of the OIC member states.

Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Saudi Arabia Shahin Abdullayev, who is also Azerbaijan's permanent representative to the OIC, welcomed the UNA delegation visit to Baku and stressed his country's interest in the trip. He said that Azerbaijan, under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, attaches great importance to building bridges with the OIC countries and supporting all institutions of joint Islamic action.

The Azerbaijani envoy affirmed that this visit will mark the beginning of a broad and fruitful cooperation with the Union and the member news agencies to strengthen relations between the Islamic peoples.

For his part, UNA Director General Issa Khaireh Robleh praised Azerbaijan's invitation to the Union delegation to visit the country and view the landmarks of the cultural and civilizational development achieved on its territory, under the leadership of President Aliyev, who was able to maintain the stability of Azerbaijan and put it on the track of steady progress and prosperity.

Robleh explained that the UNA Program of Media Delegations seeks to highlight the true image of the Muslim countries and peoples, with the view to contributing to bringing them closer and sensitizing them with each other's cultures as well as the potentialities of each country in various tourism, economic, scientific and cultural fields. He also welcomed the activation of news and training cooperation with AZERTAC and expressed the hope that the Agency would participate in all the events organized by the Union.

The delegation, headed by UNA Assistant Director General Zayed Abdullah, includes Representative of OIC Information Department Dr. Jihan Felemban; Director of Media Delegations Program Hazem Abdo; Director of Madinah Office of Saudi Press Agency (SPA) Abdulrahim Al Zahrani; Editorial Director for Egypt's Middle East News Agency (MENA) Ali El-Sayed; Director of External Coverage at Emirates News Agency (WAM) Saud Al-Junaibi; Foreign Affairs Editor at Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) Salma el Hani; Editorial Director for Oman News Agency (ONA) Qais Al-Farsi; and Editorial Director for Bahrain News Agency (BNA) Abdulrahman Mubarak.
