Karachi: Various religious and political parties announced on Saturday that a ‘Peoples’ March’ would be held in Karachi on Sunday February 10 from the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam to Tibet Centre to press the concerned authorities for strict implementation of Supreme Court verdict regarding verification of voters in Karachi.
The decision was taken at a meeting held at Jamaat-e-Islami office Idara-e-Noor-e-Haq. The meeting, presided over by JI leader Muhammad Hussain Mehanti, was attended by PML-N leader Salim Zia, Irfan Marwat, Nihal Hashmi, Naseem Siddiqui, Hafeez-Uddin of Tehreek-e-Insaf, NPP leader Syed Zia Abbas, JUP leader Mustaqeem Noorani, Awami Muslim League leader Mahfooz Yar Khan and many others.
JI leader Muhammad Hussain Mehanti said the election process in Karachi has again become hostage to the terrorists and despite clear orders of SC the army has not been called for verification of voters’ lists. “Despite several assurances of Chief Election Commissioner, army couldn’t be seen anywhere during verification and same staff has been assigned with the task that had previously prepared the list.
He said terrorism and extortion in Karachi cannot end unless the transparent polls are held here. “The government seems unserious in preparing transparent voters’ lists that gives impression that it patronizes the elements involved in irregularities in electoral lists.
