Karachi: WAPDA recovered from a goal down to beat SSGC while NBP overcame PIA in the semifinal matches of 32nd Junior U21 National Hockey Championship on Wednesday at Faisalabad Hockey Stadium, Faisalabad.
SSGC’s Mohammad Sohail converted a penalty corner to put his side 10 up in 34th minute. But WAPDA’s Waseem Abbas scored the equalizer in 62nd minute.
The match ended in a 11 draw after the regulation time. In extra time, WAPDA’s Mohammad Suleman scored the decisive goal.
The other semifinal match also went into the extra time after both the teams scored one goal each. Mohammad Dilber put NBP ahead in the seventh minute but PIA’s Ammad Butt levelled the arrears in the 20th minute. No more goals were scored till the end of the regulation time.
In extra time, Dilber once more came to the rescue and scored the decisive goal to take his team in the summit clash.
However, the match was marred by misbehaviour by the players of PIA. The tournament director Muhammad Farooq took disciplinary action against players of PIA and managers and coaches of both the teams.
Players Ammad Butt and Afsar Yaqoob have been banned for one month and M. Sultan Amir for sixth months.
Managers of both the teams Qamar Ibrahim PIA and Muhammad Arshad NBP have been warned. While coaches of both the teams Muhammad Akhlaq NBP and Muhammad Irfan Mehmood PIA have been banned for the next five matches.
