Zardari responsible for crisis: JI

Lahore: Secretary General, Jamaat e Islami, Liaqat Baloch has said that President Zardari is responsible for the present constitutional, political and democratic crisis in the country.

In a statement here on Wednesday, he said that ‘the Zardari doctrine’ had ruined the party, democracy and the public confidence.

He said the government had a very short time to act, and it must announce the elections schedule without any delay instead of attempting to demolish the constitution, the judiciary and democratic process.

He said the Supreme Court judgment against the accused in the Rental Power Plants case was strictly in accord the constitution and the law. The judiciary, he said, had to act within the constitutional framework and there was no question of timing or mistiming of the decision.

Liaqat Baloch said that Dr Tahirul Qadri’s sitin in the Islamabad had been apparently successful but its timing gave rise to doubts in the public mind. He said the masses had suffered during the last five years because of wrong government policies, and they wanted to take revenge from the rulers for their corruption, energy crisis, crushing price hike, unemployment, etc. The country, he said, is facing a deep crisis internally while India was preparing for an attack. The US, India and Israel trio had become more active.

The JI, he said, had the clear stance that the Prime Minster and the four Chief Ministers should immediately give the advice for the dissolution of the assemblies and the election process should be completed within the constitutional limit of ninety days.

He urged the armed forces and the civil establishment not to follow the line adopted by Gen. Ayub, Gen. Ziaul Haq and Pervez Musharraf, and the country should not be derailed from democracy.

Meanwhile, Dr Tahirul Qadri’s deputy, Agha Murtaza Poya, rang up the JI Secretary General to seek JI support for the ongoing long march.

He however told Murtaza Poya that the JI had been struggling against the corrupt rulers for the last five years. However, now it was the time for the elections to foil every conspiracy against the independence and the sovereignty of the country.
