Zulfiqarabad parking project to improve traffic flow: KMC

Karachi: KMC Administrator Saqib Ahmed Soomro has said that Zulfiqarabad Oil Tankers Parking Terminal project was very important for the city, therefore, completion of this project should be ensured as soon as possible.

Completion of this project would help reduce heavy traffic on city roads and improve traffic flow. This joint project was being carried out in collaboration with Government of Pakistan, Government of Sindh and Oil Companies.

He said this during a review meeting on the construction works of Zulfiqarabad Oil Tankers Parking Terminal. The meeting was attended by Director General Engineering Department Niaz Ahmed Soomro, Project Director and other officers.

Administrator Karachi said that consultancy with various oil companies and other stakeholders was underway about this project and demands of oil companies were being considered. He said 74 percent construction works of first phase of Zulfiqarabad Oil Terminal was completed whereas construction works of boundary wall, ablution & prayer area and 128 bathrooms was in final stage.

He said that drainage system was being supplied so that its problems would not have to be faced later. Water connection was already provided whereas electricity supply work would be completed soon. He said that the Supreme Court orders regarding that project were being implemented. “Allotment of shops here would be done through a draw and alternative route would be constructed for transportating oil tankers.”

He said that tankers could be parked on 6 acre land right now. “This terminal incurred an estimate of Rs313 million.

He said that 2375 oil tankers could be parked on Zulfiqarabad Oil Tankers Terminal at a time whereas infrastructure for almost 1 thousand people was available. Zulfiqarabad Oil Terminal comprises of 15 acre land in which 12 acre was allocated for parking area whereas 3 acre service area would have facilities of bank, restaurants, medical stores and others.

Administrator Karachi directed Engineering Department to complete remaining works of Zulfiqarabad Oil Terminal as soon as possible so that shifting of oil tankers from Shireen Jinnah Colony, Clifton and other areas could start whereas other problems along with security arrangements would be resolved. This was an important project of the city which would be beneficial after its completion.

Administrator Karachi said that KMC was giving attention to ongoing development projects in the city and it was trying to complete them as soon as possible. He said all development projects including Zulfiqarabad Oil Tankers Parking Terminal would be completed speedily.
