46 traffic signals nonworking in Karachi

KARACHI: At least 46 traffic signals are in nonworking condition in Karachi and there is a dire need to get them repaired, said a Commissioner Karachi office handout on Sunday.

It said a joint meeting of district administration and traffic police officials was held to discuss the possible traffic jams issues in the city during the month of Ramzan Kareem.

The meeting was told that 46 traffic signals on important streets of Karachi are out of order and need to be repaired on urgent basis. It was decided to open one closed track of Baloch Colony flyover from Monday on experimental basis to improve traffic.

The commissioner, Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui said a CNG station on Shara-e-Faisal near Drigh Road was causing traffic jams in the area and the concerned authorities should be written to cancel its NoC. It was decided that 1100 city wardens would be posted on 97 identified spots to improve traffic flow. As the city wardens carry no weapons a police cop would also be posted on each of these 97 spots.
