Islamabad: According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 72% of Pakistanis feel that the country should maintain close ties with SAARC countries.
A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked “Should Pakistan have close ties with SAARC countries?” In response, 72% answered that close ties with SAARC countries were preferred, whereas 10% were against such ties. However, 17% were uncertain about their stance and 1% chose not to respond.
A comparison across provinces revealed that more respondents from KPK (95%) and Balochistan (77%) were in favour of closer Pak-SAARC ties as compared to people from Punjab (67%) and Sindh (69%).
The study was released by Gilani foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International.
The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2661 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during June 10, 2013 – June 17, 2013. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
