KARACHI: The vital visit of Pakistan Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif to the United States of America should be an opportunity to improve the peopletopeople relations between the two nations and one of the perquisites in this regard would be the release and repatriation of the daughter of the nation, noted woman scientist and educationalist of Pakistan Dr Aafia Siddiqui, said Aafia Movement Pakistan leader Dr Fowzia Siddiqui here Sunday.
In a statement on Sunday, she said the people of Pakistan expect of Mian Nawaz Sharif that he would talk on all aspects of the issues affecting PakistanUS bilateral relations including drone attacks, terrorism, Pakistan’s foreign debt and the detention of Pakistani mother Aafia.
She said the government of Pakistan Muslim LeagueNawaz PMLN has already shown a serious commitment to the cause of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, who wants to bring an educational revolution in Pakistan and boosting female literacy in this country. She said the trafficking of Dr Aafia Siddiqui and her children from Karachi to foreign torture centers and jails is a blemish on human rights record of both Pakistan and the US.
She said when the foreign media broke the story of the illegal detention of Aafia in an Afghanistan detention center, the world champion of democracy and human rights, the US, instead of giving her justice handed her a ridiculously long imprisonment which is just an addition of a shameful chapter in the history of justice system of the United States of America.
Dr Fowzia was optimistic that the issue of Aafia release would be discussed during the visit of Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, adding an early release of the Pakistani woman educationalist and mother would certainly help in easing the strained peopletopeople relations between the two nations. She also requested the administration and people of USA to show a humanitarian gesture by releasing Aafia and ensuring her reunion with her children and family.
