Karachi: The whole Pakistani nation awaits the release and repatriation of Pakistani mother Dr Aafia Siddiqui but sadly our rulers have some other priorities, said Aafia mom Asmat Siddiqui in a statement here Sunday.
She said the continued incarceration of Aafia, who is considered a global icon of women’s rights, is a big question mark on the world consciousness. She said the peace loving people of whole world should raise a strong voice for Aafia and help in securing her early release and repatriation.
On the issue of Musharraf imprisonment she said it is the right of prisoners to meet their family members. She requested the Pakistani government to allow the mother of Gen Pervez Musharraf meeting her son. She said as the mother of a jailed daughter she feels the pain of Musharraf’s mom. She said the stonehearted American administration is not taking into consideration the human values, family relations and sensitive motherly feelings in case of her incarcerated daughter Aafia.
However, she hoped that the Pakistani administration would show mercy and compassion and call Musharraf’s mother from Dubai and arrange her meeting with her son.
She said one mother always feels the pain and suffering of another mom. She said she has been watching door for last 10 years, waiting for her daughter’s return. She said she said that when dictator Musharraf was in power she had telephoned his mother and requested her for the recovery of her trafficked daughter. She said she believed the Musharraf’s mom would have told her son about her plea. She said though her daughter was never released but still she wants Musharraf’s mother should be allowed to see her son.
She hoped that the government of Pakistan would take notice of the confession of Gen Musharraf that handing over Dr Aafia to Americans was an act of treason, and take practical steps for early repatriation of her daughter.
She appealed to all mothers of the world to raise voice for her innocent daughter languishing in an American jail away from her children for crimes she never committed. She said the history would not forgive those who have jailed Aafia and also those who have kept a mum on this case of human rights violation, and a classical example of trafficking of women and children.
