KARACHI: KMC Administrator Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi has said that a track of under construction water pump flyover and Aisha Manzil flyover on Shahrah-i-Pakistan going from Sohrab Goath to Liaquatabad would be opened for traffic in third week of August whereas remaining two tracks of these flyovers and construction works of other flyovers on Shahrah-i-Pakistan should be completed as soon as possible.
He said this while visiting under construction flyovers on four intersections of Shahrah i Pakistan where he was accompanied by Director General Technical Services Niaz Ahmed Soomro, Project Director Shabihul Hassan, concerned Engineers and other officers.
On this occasion administrator was informed in a briefing that a track of Water Pump and Aisha Manzil Flyovers could not be opened for traffic due to delay in import of expansion joints from Korea however the pace of construction works will now be enhanced and the track be opened in third week of August.
Th administrator directed officers and engineers and said that construction works on four flyovers should be continued on round the clock basis and speed of work be enhanced more right after Eid to compensate Eid holidays so that completion of these flyovers will not be late and traffic using this important and busy road of the city could be facilitated as soon as possible.
He said that KMC realizes the inconvenience being faced by citizens due to construction works of flyovers however development projects were made for city progress and development which facilitate citizens in their daily life and temporary inconvenience converts into constant relief after a certain time.
Afterwards administrator also reviewed construction works of Liaquatabad and Teen Hatti Flyovers and directed officers.
He said that flyovers were being constructed on four intersections of Shahrah-i-Pakistan to make this road signal free from Sohrab Goath to Teen Hatti which would help maintain traffic flow on this busy road and adjacent areas and traffic jam problem will also be resolved. He said that ceiling works including piles and girders on a track of Water Pump flyover has been completed and carpeting work will be completed soon.
This flyover was being constructed with a cost of Rs 493 million which collectively include 8 spans, 64 girders, 116 piles and 610 meter length whereas all girders of Aisha Manzil Flyover have been installed and ceiling work was underway speedily on remaining part.
Aisha Manzil Flyover was being constructed with a cost of Rs 377 million. Three lanes for each side were being constructed in this flyover and this flyover has 460 meter length. Underground utility lines have been shifted whereas space for Mass Transit was kept along flyover.
He said that special arrangements for funds were made to complete construction works of Water Pump and Aisha Manzil Flyovers and quality and sustainability were also considered in construction of the flyovers which will help build basic infrastructure of the city on modern lines and citizens of Karachi will be benefiting from these projects on long term basis.
