Construction of Polo Ground completed

KARACHI: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation KMC Administrator Saqib Ahmed Soomro said on Thursday that construction work of Gulshan-e-Jinnah Polo Ground has been completed and renovation works would also be completed within next few days.

This park consisting of 20 acres of land was being reconstructed with a cost of Rs170 million. This place as central picnic point of the city has special importance, therefore, standard of material was ensured in construction works of this park and every possible effort was made to develop this park not only as a park but also as identity and cultural point of view.

He said this during a visit to Gulshan-e-Jinnah Polo Ground where he was accompanied by Director General Parks Abdullah Mushtaq, relevant Project Director, Chief Engineer and other officers.

Soomro said that thousands of new saplings were being planted in Gulshan-e-Jinnah Polo Ground and such species of saplings and trees were being introduced which have attractive flowers the whole year. He said that central gate having historical importance was also constructed in park which was compatible with architecture design of our neighbouring country China. External walls were being constructed on the same style whereas installation works of stone canopies was also completed.

He said that facilities have been provided in park which includes improvement of Eidgah, play area for children, modern musical fountain, jogging track and lighting tower. The historical importance was considered in the design of park.

On this occasion Director General Parks informed that modern water irrigation system was also installed for keeping vast area of park green and attractive and car parking arrangements were also made which would provide visitors with parking facilities. Administrator Karachi said that citizens would have better facilities along with construction of this park having modern facilities.

He said that KMC was making efforts to provide better facilities in various areas of the city. This place as Eidgah has historical importance since establishment of Pakistan. It was an important park due to its existence in the middle of the city which lost its attraction due to constant use and lack of development works which was now constructed according to modern requirements.

There were five star hotels and big offices near this park due to which availability of a park in this area was very necessary which reduces environmental pollution as well as provides citizens with opportunity to spend some time with their families.
