ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the Inspector General IG of Islamabad police to himself supervise investigation of the murder case of a teenage girl and submit progress report till March 4.
The bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Sh. Azmat Saeed was hearing a suo moto case against the brutal murder of an 11yearold girl who was gang raped and burnt to death here in the federal capital.
The chief justice noted that since the girl was the daughter of a poor man, thus police did not care her case. He noted that police was attempting to bury the case, but the court would not allow to do so and the law would take its course.
The court also directed the IG to order his investigators not to misbehave with the family of the murdered girl and use careful language with her family. Justice Gulzar Ahmed noted that police had spoiled the whole case.
Appearing on notice, IGP Islamabad Bani Amin Khan told the court that FIR of the case was registered on February 15 on the complaint of father of the deceased girl Shehzadi. He said the accused including Shan and Qaisar were arrested the same day.
He said the dead body of the girl was recovered on February 16. He said mother of Shehzadi used to wash utensils and sanitation at the home of the accused Qaisar. He said Shehzadi also read tuition from Mehak wife of Qaisar.
He said the mother of Shehzadi did not take any money of the sanitation work on account of her daughter’s tuition from the daughter of Qaisar. He said on Feb 12, the accused Mehak called Shehzadi for tuition during the day instead of evening.
He said Mehak sent the brother of Shehzadi for taking juice and hide Shehzadi. He said accused had collected their luggage to flee on Feb 15 evening. He said the accused Mehak had secured her pre arrest bail till Feb 26. Meanwhile the court adjourned the hearing till March 4.
The court had taken suo moto notice of the case on Monday on news reports about unidentified people, who raped the girl and set her body on fire before dumping it in a ditch. The news reports stated that the police found the girl’s body in Sector I9/1 of Islamabad. The girl was a resident of Bhara Kahu and had gone missing on February 13.
An FIR was registered against 55yearold Qaiser Ali and his wife Mehak Qaiser after the girl’s father accused them of kidnapping his daughter. The case was registered against the nominated accused under Section 302 of CrPC in the Industrial Area Police Station on February 17. According to the news reports, the incident had sparked protests in the locality while members of the civil society called for the arrest of the accused and demanded a death penalty for all those involved.
