Death toll mounts to 45 in Mashkay

QUETTA: Death toll has risen to 45 in Mashkay following major earthquake that hit vast areas of Balochistan Saturday. According to details a major earthquake with 7.2 magnitude had again rocked vast areas of Balochistan including Awaran, Mashkay, Quetta, Khuzdar, Nasirabad and others yesterday.

Assistant Commissioner Mashkay told that there is possibility of deaths to rise upto 40. He said all the houses were completely destroyed in Mashkay. People were living under open sky with no means of life. Several wells were also closed which caused severe shortage of drinking water.

Reports said that 45 people were killed and nearly 100 injured. Sixty four injured people including women and children were shifted to Karachi for treatment.

On the other hand people in other earthquake hit areas were compelled to suffer harsh weather during daylight and spending nights under open sky. Non availability of clean water and shortage of food was creating diseases in affected areas and difficulties of affectees were not lessening.

Relief was being provided to affectees around Awaran but people in far flung areas were still deprived of any sort of assistance.

In Awaran life was returning to normal. Shops were opening and buyers are seen in the bazaar.
