KARACHI: Dow University of Health Sciences, Karachi is organizing an International Symposium on ‘Ramadan and Health’ on from 25th 26th of October 2013 at Dow International Medical College, Ojha Campus, Karachi. This event will be running throughout the day from 9:00 a.m to 6:00 pm.
This Symposium is being organised under the supervision of Prof Masood Hameed Khan, VC, DUHS and Prof. Zaman Shaikh, Director, National Institute of Diabetes & Endocrinology, DUHS. The aim of this conference is to share the research studies conducted by international and national researchers to understand the effect of Ramadan fasting on human health.
They informed that this Symposium is the first its kind in Pakistan. Earlier, four conferences on this subject has been held throughout world till yet. The most striking findings of researchers will be shared to both scientific and general audience in the form of state of art and plenary lectures, free papers and posters. International speakers are coming from various countries who have conducted several researches examining the effects of fasting on human health particularly metabolic outcomes. Similarly, national speakers from nearly all corners of the country are also invited to participate and present their work on this international event.
This international symposium will be graced by several national and international speakers including Prof. Jasem Ramada, Prof Mohsen, Prof Javaid Akram, Prof AH Amir, Prof. Zaman Shaikh, Prof. Yaqoob Ahmadani, Prof. NajamulIslam, Prof. Faisal Qureshi, Dr. Khadija and Dr. Shabeen Naz Masood. These speakers will be sharing their findings on variety of different health related issues during fasting including Ramadan fasting related practices, fasting and feasting in Ramadan, physical activity during Ramadan fasting, management of hypertension and diabetes mellitus during Ramadan fasting, healthrelated quality of life and many other commonly occurring health issues in relation to Ramadan fasting.
