KARACHI: The residents of Lyari on Monday staged a sit-in in front of Rangers Headquarters along Ziauddin Road in Karachi and demanded of Chief Justice of Pakistan to take action against the personnel responsible for ‘extrajudicial killing’ of Saqib Boxer.
Rangers said that Saqib Boxer was killed in encounter with them on June 28. They alleged that Saqib was wanted to police for his involvement in gang related crimes and the murder of three people in Kharadar area.
Traffic jam was also witnessed on roads in the city’s business district due to rally taken out by residents of Lyari from Football House, Lyari to the Rangers Headquarters where they staged sit-in. The participants chanted slogans and passed through police blockades in the red zone areas of the city and made their way to the Rangers Headquarters.
Addressing the protestors outside Rangers Headquarters along with Pakistan People’s Party PPP leaders Senator Yousuf Baloch, Abdul Qadir Patel demanded of Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry to take notice of extrajudicial killing.
He urged authorities to stop extrajudicial killings in Lyari. “Peace will not prevail after abducting and killing of a person without any evidence.”
He alleged that Saqib was shot dead blindfoldedly. “Instead of killing our youngsters, the security authorities should thoroughly investigate the matter.”
Following talks with Deputy Commissioner South Mustafa Jamal Qazi, the sit-in outside the Rangers HQ was ended. The protestors also handed over a memorandum of their demands to the Deputy Commissioner.
