Gas supply to hospital severed due to bill default

Ratodero, Sindh: The Sui Gas connection of Shaikh Zayed Hospital for Women has been disconnected by the SSGC Larkana authorities on Friday causing immense hardships for the indoor and OPD patients of this only well equipped women hospital of upper Sindh as operations are being delayed due to delay in sterilization of operation instruments through autoclave.

Worst affected are over 60 girl students of Nursing School undergoing nursing training as their mess is closed and the contractors are forced to cook their food on burning wood.

The SSGC recovery officer Nisar Hulio told Reporters in Larkana due over 6 million rupees are outstanding against the administration of Shaikh Zayed Hospital for Women since long time but they not paying the amount due to which their gas supply connection was locked last year and this year too they failed to deposit the amount hence they had no option but to lock the gas supply regulator.

Medical Superintendent of Chandka Medical College Hospital, Larkana, Dr. Safiullah Abbasi told media that the annual budget allocation of the same Shaikh Zayed Hospital is very meagre due to which the bill is constantly rising. He said that budget allocation of Chandka Hospital for Gas is also given to the SSGC but the amount remains the same.

He further said CMCH authorities have written time & again to the SSGC Larkana to check the theft of gas and seal the leakage but they are constantly avoiding. He further said that they have also written to them to disconnect the existing supply line and install only two meters, one for OTs and another for Nursing Hostel mess but no response has so far been received which shows the lack of interest by SSGC.

He said that monthly bill of the hospital is exorbitant than the actual consumption due to which they been asking SSGC to install two separate meters with new connection and disconnection of existing supply which will expose the theft and pilferage if there is any. He said that in the new week more payment will be made to the SSGC as bills have been submitted to the district accounts officer for payment.

He further said that the Operation Theatres have been badly affected but operations are being conducted though the number has reduced due to non sterilization of OT material which also being carried out from other nearby Paeds Surgery blocks. MS Dr. Abbasi further said that all the previous administrations have written several letters to Health & Finance Department of Sindh to enhance the budget allocations but it has not yet been done and hoped that very soon government will clear the dues.
