International Media has reported that India’s attempt to block a BBC documentary critical of Prime Minister Narrendra Modi in the 2002 anti-Muslim Gujarat riots has backfired.

It said the Indian Government efforts to ban the BBC documentary drew more attention to it and showed the inefficacy of such measures.

Quoting lawyer Bhushan, senior journalist N Ram and member of Parliament from opposition Mahua Moitra, who had challenged the blocking of the BBC documentary in the Supreme Court, the media reported that the documentary does not violate any of the restrictions on the right to freedom of speech and expression.
