Inter-University volleyball championship kicks off

Islamabad: The Intervarsity Volleyball Championship sponsored by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), began at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR). Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, PMAS-AAUR was the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the championship.

Ten teams are participating in the championship, which are International Islamic University, National University of Sciences and Technology, PMAS-Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi (AAUR), NUML, COMSATS, PIEAS, Bahria University, University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, University of Ponch, Riffah International University, Institute of Space Technology, University of Engineering and Technology Taxila and Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad. On the first day of the championship two matches were played which was won by Bahria University and Azad Jammu and Kashmir University against the Riffah and NUST, respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad said sports activities always make a person fresh and energetic. He further said that these activities not only play an important role in physical fitness and mind sharpness but also build the confidence and self-esteem. He said that the role of education cannot be over emphasized.

“All stakeholders have to realize that Pakistan will never be able to get out of the sticky situation of socio-economic backwardness without bringing about qualitative and quantitative improvements in the education system”, he added. Dr. Niaz Ahmad said that healthy competition amongst students can only develop healthy generation, and with that we can lead the world. He also appreciated the efforts of organizers and hoped that such type of activities would be held repeatedly in future as well.
