KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami JI Karachi chapter’s Chief Muhammad Hussain Mehanti on Wednesday demanded of the Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to visit Karachi and take effective steps in order to restore peace in the city.
Addressing a protest rally at M A Jinnah Road along with JI General Secretary Naseem Siddiqui and others, he said that the city has become a slaughter house, as dozens of the innocent people are being targeted on daily basis, but the government, police, Rangers and other law enforcing agencies have not yet taken any step to arrest the culprits.
He said 750 people have been targeted by armed assailants in last 5 months, adding that such incidents have increased after the general elections 2013.
Mehanti regretted that no investigation has been conducted in Shershah and Abbas Town mayhems, adding no arrest could be made in this regard.
He said that the target killings have been continued for last 27 years, adding that various terrorist outfits are active in the city in this regard.
Mehanti demanded of the government to take stern action against the extortionists before Ramzan.
Speaking on the occasion, JI General Secretary Naseem Siddiqui said that the Prime Minister should fulfil his pledge made before the elections that PMLN government will restore peace in Karachi.
Siddiqui regretted that the extortion and target killing incidents have been rising after elections 2013.
