Karachi: The city administration continued crackdown on profiteers on the directives of Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui during which 574 shopkeepers were charged fine of Rs.619600 while three shopkeepers were arrested and sent behind the bars for violating the law time and again.
Commissioner told that on the directives of Deputy Commissioner East 233 shopkeepers were charged and recovered Rs.226000 as fine while two shopkeepers were sent to jail. On the instructions of Deputy Commissioner South 74 shopkeepers were charged and fine of Rs.41000 was recovered. In Central District 114 shopkeepers were fine Rs.123600 while 79 shopkeepers were fined Rs.163800 and a shopkeeper was sent to jail. In Malir District 74 shopkeepers were imposed fine of Rs.65200.
Meanwhile, in a meeting with officials, Commissioner directed to ensure that the live chicken is sold at Rs.165 per kilogram, chicken meat at Rs.272 per kilogram and milk at Rs.70 per kilogram, which are the rates fixed with consent of poultry farmers and milk producers.
