KARACHI: Managing Director Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB) Misbahuddin Farid has ordered immediate action against bogus mineral water companies in the city.
Presiding over a high profile meeting at MD Secretariat KWSB on Monday, Farid directed chief engineers that more than 500 entities are using water supplied by KWSB and selling it as mineral water. All Deputy Managing Directors, Chief Engineers, Directors and Officers were also present at the meeting. Farid said that KWSB is a public service department and providing water through taps is it utmost priority.
He said: “We should work together for the betterment of the institution. All Deputy Managing Directors must monitor their respective departments and ensure that quality of work is improved.” During the meeting, several administrative matters were discussed including improvement in water supply system; ensure daily supply as per schedule and schedules must be placed at all pumping stations.”
Ordering immediate action against bogus mineral Water companies, MD KWSB directed Chief Engineers that more than 500 entities are using water supplied by KWSB and selling it as mineral water, so immediate action must be taken and water connection must be disconnected. Such entities would be black listed, no new connections would be issued, he said.
MD KWSB directed that Emergency Centres must be active 24 hours. Staff would be deployed in three shifts so that citizens of Karachi may not face any trouble to register their complaints. Furthermore, he also directed that all damaged manhole covers must be repaired.
He said new manhole covers and ring slabs must be manufactured immediately and ample stock must be maintained. He also directed that sewerage complaints must be resolved on immediate basis throughout the city.
He also directed DMD Revenue to pay special attention on recovery of outstanding dues with the help of Engineering Department. He also directed that water recovery and water connection record must be maintained.
“Multi-storey buildings, hotels, marriage lawns and other commercial entities not on the tax net must be brought on it. He directed DMD Revenue to improve performance so that complaints must be catered on recovery basis.”
He directed DMD HRDA that in order to decrease additional expenses, a new policy must be formulated. This policy would review petrol quota, procurement of stationary, medical expenses, electric and diesel expenses and employee loans.
He ordered that salary of absent staff must be deducted to ensure full attendance, whereas, all promotions must be on merit.
He directed DMD Finance that KWSB website must be upgraded and updated. He also directed DMD T&S to recover KWSB land under illegal possession.
Thanking DMD T&S, he expressed his gratitude for running KWSB matters swiftly during his absence.
