Lapse of five years time: 15 HSTs, JSTs posts not filled in Benazir’s hometown school

NAUNDERO, Sind: As many as 15 posts of female high and junior school teachers are lying vacant over the last five years at Government Girls Higher Secondary School Naundero, but PPP government feels no responsibility in this regard.

According to reliable sources, eight posts of High School Teachers (HSTs) and seven posts of Junior School Teachers (JSTs) are vacant in the school. The present government, which has been formed in the name of slain PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto, has done nothing to fill these posts which has caused irreparable loss to the studies of the female students.

More than 1800 girl students of classes VI to XII are getting education in this school in the home town of Benazir Bhutto. The total sanctioned strength of this school is only 55 posts out of which 27 are teachers and 28 are for lower non-teaching staff. The sanctioned strength of teachers posts include 15 HSTs, 12 JSTs and one post each of Bio-Teacher, Instructor, DT, OT and WI (Workshop Instructor), which are yet be built by the government in the school).

Non-teaching posts include one each senior assistant and assistant, three senior clerks, two junior clerks, three laboratory assistants, four naib qasids and so forth.

According to the Sindh education department, only 30 to 35 students are to be admitted in a single class room with single teacher but due to vacant posts over 120 girl students are getting education in a single class which can best define the standard of education in this school and the burden on working teachers.

There are no teachers for Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Botany & Zoology subjects,
sources further said.

Male subject specialists have been relieved off from this school recently due to which these subjects await their occupants as 10 posts are also lying vacant here.

Sources further said that education department has mostly posted subject specialists on political influence as head masters or principals in various schools throughout Sindh province in violation of existing government rules which has created lot of problems to the students and school administrators as subject specialists are only appointed for teaching specific subjects but the department has played a havoc with the future leaders of the province.

Washrooms of the school for the girl students are in dilapidated condition and the electrification in the building demands emergency replacement as most of the wires are open without proper boards.

There is not a single electric water cooler in this large school of over 1800 girl students and their teachers and the next hot weather will certainly add to the woes of the students and their teachers.

Trees in the school have been chopped off by the outgoing principal hence the intensity of hot season coupled with frequent electricity failure due to load shedding will add to the miseries of the students.

The students told PPI that there are no fans or bulbs in the class rooms hence they cannot study properly. The citizens and parents of the students have demanded that the sanctioned strength of HSTs and JSTs must be increased to meet the actual requirement of the school.

Citizens further demanded that female competent subject specialists should also be posted on urgent basis to fulfil the much advertised vision of Benazir Bhutto.

The vacant post of principal of the school may also be filled with senior and competent school teacher. The citizens further demanded that one school bus may also be provided to the school for the benefit of those girl students who arrive here from villages.
