Minister briefs about the Population Policy for the year 2013

Peshawar: The KhyberPakhtunkhwa Caretaker Minister for Health and Population Welfare Dr. Farrukh Seir was briefed about the performance, administrative structure, Directorate General of Population District Offices, ADP 201314 and Population Policy for the year 2013 of the Population Welfare Department Khyber Pukhtunkhwa.

Secretary Population Welfare, Syed Zafar Ali Shah gave presentation at his office in Defence Officers Colony Peshawar on Monday.

Additional Secretary Population Welfare Department, Director General Population Welfare Department, Deputy Secretary Population Welfare Department and officers/officials of other concerned departments were also present on this occasion.

The Secretary informed the Minister that after passage of 18th amendment, the responsib8ilities of the Population Welfare Department has been increased and now a strategy was being evolved keeping in view the need of the future.

He also informed about the steps being taken by the department regarding family planning programmes at district level and the activities being carried out in the district offices in this respect.

The Minister while expressing satisfaction over the performance of the population welfare department said that growth to population was a main reason of our increasingly problems so that media including information technology sector and other modern tools should be utilized to inform the people regarding the family planning.

The Minister said that students of fourth year of medical colleges could also be assigned the responsibility to mobilize the people about family planning programmes.

He said CMH can extend cooperation with regard to the provision of necessary data, however, he directed the Secretary Population Welfare to prepare a summary on the establishment of department offices in own building so that it could be discussed with the Chief Minister of the province.
