New nomination papers have no constitutional status: Aitzaz

Islamabad: Renowned legal expert Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan has said that Election Commission EC cannot go ahead with the printing of amended nomination forms without the approval of the President.

While talking to media persons on Wednesday he said that the new nomination papers have no constitutional status. He said that if President does not give his approval to the amended nomination papers‚ there could be constitutional complications.

“There is no legal or constitutional standing of the new nomination papers without getting the president’s approval,” he said, adding that the constitution clearly states that president’s approval is necessary.

He was of the view that the ECP has taken an illegal and unconstitutional step by printing this form. To a question, he said a dual national cannot become a member of the parliament now.
