KARACHI: Famous of its diversified flavours and tastes, Pakistani mangoes have landed in Mauritius on high demand as a local fruit exports successfully introduced the king of fruit first time in the history of the country against attractive orders.
Pakistan’s mangoes could capture half of the market Mauritius in next five years due to its unique variety of tastes and price competitiveness. The country has been given approval of exporting mangoes of 500 ton this year after it successfully fulfilled the processing requirement of the fruit at the standard level of Mauritius fruits authority.
In this regard, the first shipment of 22 ton mangoes has been carried out of mangoes via sea recently whereas the shipment of rest of the consignments will be made in the coming next weeks on supply schedule.
This is first time in the country, the mangoes of high demand across the world has been exported to Mauritius in 2013, which is a major breakthrough to explore a new lucrative market in the world, said exporter Babar Durrani, who is Director of Durrani Associates.
No doubt, the taste Pakistanis mango is unmatchable in the world in which none of the country could compete it but the prices we offer to new market is surprisingly half of the current market rate in Mauritius, he added.
Detailing the dynamics of Mauritius market, Durrani said the Pakistan’s mango is available at $1.5 dollar per kg in the new market whereas mangoes of different countries are being sold at $3 per kg. It happened because Durrani Associates opt to supply mangoes via sea at reduced freight cost of Rs 12 per kg as against Rs 160 per kg freight cost is charged via airplane.
The overall import of mangoes of Mauritius is $ 1.5 billion annually whereas Pakistan has made it entry this year with only one exporter, Durrani Associates, who planned to enhance the volume of mango exports gradually to meet the maximum demand of importing country in next five years.
Durrani added the mangoes of Pakistan has gained tremendous responds on the arrival of first consignment through its showcasing event which is a big achievement not only for our company but for Pakistan as its name has been introduced in the rich country.
The introduction of Pakistan’s mangoes is breakthrough for exports of fruits sector of country because it will not only expand the scope of exports to different countries in future but it will also help earning handsome foreign exchange to the national exchequer.
The role of Pakistan’s ambassador in Mauritius is commendable to organize the exhibition of Pakistan’s mangoes in the living country which attract a large number of buyers to enjoy the delicious taste of Pakistani mangoes first time, Durrani further said.
