Paramedics boycott CMCH Larkana work, stage demo

RATODERO: A complete boycott by the paramedics of Chandka Medical College Hospital (CMCH) in Larkana paralysed hospital work on Thursday against posting of Dr Zulfiqar Siyal as Medical Superintendent.

Paramedics led by Shahi Jagirani, Zulfiqar Sahto and others held a protest demonstration near Radiology Department in Civil Hospital Block and demanded withdrawal of notification under which Dr Zulfiqar Siyal has again been posted as Medical Superintendent of the CMCH.

The paramedics gathered at this Hospital and raised slogans against the government and Dr Siyal. The hospital administration block was also locked up and nobody was allowed to go inside and perform their duties. All officers and clerical staff waited outside at a lawn but the lock was opened.

The paramedics later took out a protest rally which marched to Larkana Press Club where their leaders Jagirani and Sahto addressed. Both these leaders warned the government and the district administration to withdraw the notification within 24 hours or else total hospital work will come to standstill.

They further said that Siyal was transferred out of this Hospital due to his bad & abusive attitude with the lower staff members and senior & junior doctors. Pakistan Medical Association Larkana leader Dr Shah Baig Chandio also joined the protesting government servants.

In his address to the gathering, he also warned the Larkana administration and Health Department Secretary that if any of the patient died in this largest 1352-bed teaching hospital of upper Sindh, he would lodge FIR against the district administration and Secretary Health Department for their negligence.

He further said that Sindh High Court in its Order passed on 27th February had directed the Sindh Chief Secretary to post senior doctor of BS-20 belonging to general cadre to run the hospital and he was further directed to report compliance but just one day before instead of clear-cut directions Chief Secretary violated court orders and posted a notorious doctor who was transferred out of this hospital because of his ruthless behaviour with the patients and other hospital staff.

All departments of the Hospital including Laboratories, Radiology, operation theatres etc were closed including OPD and all indoor & OPD patients suffered very badly.

On the other hand patients’ attendants also held protest demonstration and blocked Chandka bridged on Wednesday morning demanding treatment. The protest was led by Jamil Janwari, Nazakat Jagirani, Ahmed Ali Kehar, Zaheer Soomro and others.

The post of MS (BS-20) has become a joke for the government as in the past 13 years only one doctor of BS-20 was posted by the government otherwise it remained occupied by junior influential doctors of BS-19 who kept on obliging politicians for their ulterior motives.

Dr Shah Baig Chandio told Reporters that who is behind all this frequent transfer/postings’ drama of MS Chandka Hospital and why the government has not so far handled it seriously.

Dr. Chandio said: “If the government do not take fruitful actions, then it is feared this hospital will collapse and tax-payers money will be wasted.

He demanded of the government to immediately transfer Dr. Siyal out of Larkana and ensure posting of BS-20 general cadre doctor so that hospital work could be streamlined.
