KARACHI: Pakistani political and religious parties have to broaden their vision to solve the burning issues faced by the nation and country. The prevailing trends of political immaturity and compromising bigger causes for petty vested interests are harmful not only for political parties themselves but also for the masses.
This was stated by Pasban Pakistan President Altaf Shakoor while talking to people during his visit to different parts of the city here on Thursday.
He regretted that our political and religious parties are not ready to look beyond elections, as they lack political maturity. They are not only incapable of playing their due role in safeguarding the national honour and cause, but also stressing that there is no need of a principle-based politics in this country.
He noted that these myopic political people instead of supporting Dr Fowzia Siddiqui are pressurizing her to withdraw her nomination papers from NA-250 constituency of Karachi. He said no leader of any political party summoned the courage to file nomination against General (retd) Musharraf, but only Dr Fowzia showed this courage and commitment. He said logically all democratic forces should have encouraged and supported her and withdrawn nomination of their candidates to show solidarity with her, but they just did the opposite.
Altaf Shakoor asked when our political and religious parties are not ready to sacrifice just one seat how one could expect from them that they would change the destiny of this nation. He said this is why the people are not ready to trust these opportunist political and religious parties. He asked why these political and religious parties are blind to the cruelties meted out to Pakistani mother Dr Aafia Siddiqui. Why their ears are deaf to the cries of innocent Aafia, he wondered.
He said that Pakistan Tehreek Insaf (PTI) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) have not mentioned the release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui in their election manifestoes, adding the political parties are only exploiting the name of Aafia to garner political sympathies of voters but they are not ready to walk their talk. He said why there is no political Tsunami, long march or Dharna (sit-in) for the innocent daughter of the nation. He said the political parties are paying just lip service on the issue of Aafia Siddiqui.
He said if all these political parties pointing score on the issue of Aafia summon courage to stage a sit-in in front of the US embassy, Dr Aafia could be released and repatriated within a couple of days.
