Protest against inflated bills

Khairpur, Sindh: A large number of people here Thursday strongly protested against the inflated electricity bills of Sukkur Electric Supply Company (SEPCO) Khairpur.

Talking to media Ghaffar Mahar and other protestors said they have been receiving inflated bills, but despite complaints there are not being corrected.

Mahar said he has been receiving bills based excessive meter reading for five months. He said he approached SEPCO Engineer Pervez Phulpoto but despite his assurances the bills were not corrected. He said that meter readers and other SEPCO officials are behind this exploitation of consumers. He said corruption is rampant in the SEPCO Khairpur and honest bill-paying consumers are being targeted while electricity thieves given protection.

He said SEPCO authorities have taken disciplinary actions against two meter Shafi and Hyder, but still the consumers are getting inflated bills.

He appealed to the FIA and other authorities to take immediate action in this regard and resolve the problem of inflated electricity bills and excessive meter reading in Khairpur.

The protesters also demanded correction of bills and action against corrupt officials of SEPCO Khairpur. They chanted the slogans against the engineer SEPCO and other employees and demanded posting of honest officials.
