Renowned cleric gunned down in Nawabshah

Nawabshah, Sindh: A noted religious scholar and central leader of Jamaat Ahle Sunnat Maulana Yaqoob Qadri, 70, was gunned down here on Thursday, sending the town closed to mourn. Four snipers riding two motorcycles opened firing on Maulana Yaqoob at Liaquat Market and fled. He was rushed to the Peoples Medical College Hospital where he breathed his last. As the news of his death broke whole Nawabshah town went closed.

Jamaat Ahle Sunnat leaders Dr Khushi Muhammad, Aslam Noori, Muhammad Ashraf Sultani, DSP City Aijaz Tareen and a large number of people reached the hospital.

Enraged people opened aerial firing and burnt tires on streets. Police cordoned off the entry and exit points and mounted search for the target killers.

Maulana Yaqoob Qadri was member of the supreme council of Jamaat Ahle Sunnat, deputy general secretary of Nizam-e-Mustafa Party and the founder of Anjuman Talaba-e-Islam ATI. He was a top-notch religious scholar and firebrand speaker. He was a lawyer by profession and also Pesh Imam prayer leader of Faizan-e-Madina Masjid Nawabshah. He spent a simple and devoted life. He left behind a widow, two sons and two daughters and thousands of friends and fans. His elder son Danyal Qadri is a student of Karachi University.

Sindh Adviser for Auqaf and Religious Affairs Ziaul Hassan Lanjar advocate strongly condemned the murder of Maulana Yaqoob and asked police to arrest the killers.
