Seasonal viral flu hits Karachiites

Karachi: Renowned Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Surgeon Dr SM Qaisar Sajjad on Tuesday said with slight dip of mercury level in the metropolis, every second person in Karachi is seen sniffling, sneezing and coughing, as the seasonal flu has gripped the city.

He told PPI here that self-medication and excessive use of antibiotic medicines during viral flu in winter season without the consultation of specialist doctors was highly harmful for patients. He suggested that only qualified doctor should be approached in case of viral flu.

He said that those with a weak immune system are more likely to contract the infectious disease. He said seasonal flu griped the person with a weak immune system, especially those who don’t eat a proper diet, consume less water and don’t get proper sleep in daily.

Dr Qaisar said seasonal flu was infectious disease and airborne droplets helped it spread fast. He said it could be spread by shaking hands with infected people or using their personal items like: phones and towels. He said symptoms of viral flu include sore throat, runny nose, cough flu, fever and headache.

He said flu was a common disease in winter, but during changing weather, it becomes more dangerous. He said people should take precautionary measures to avoid the flu.

He advised the citizens for proper diet, avoiding junk food, consuming abundance of plain water, and having proper 7-8 hours of sleep could boost a person’s immunity. He said that in cities like Karachi, people always remained in a rush and ignored healthy practices, which caused health problems to them. He advised them to properly schedule their day and night timings.
